Fundraising Activities

To fund our operations in Malawi, The JCT Children’s Foundation organises a variety of events in the UK, ranging from Quizzes / Auctions to sponsored skin / snowboard challenges. These fundraising activities pay for the majority of the operational costs and keep the projects running.

Mont Blanc

Press Release

Background
We feel the 'Mont Blanc Back-Country Challenge' differs from the many others currently on the market, in that it will take riders away from the comfort of the slopes and out into the back-country. The Challenge has been designed by a team of professional mountain guides, Mountain Tracks, (www.mountaintracks.co.uk). Launching in the 2008 season, the Mountain Tracks guide will be taking up to 10 groups of 10 skiers and snowboarders to Chamonix to complete a four day event which will also cover essential training on back country safety and avalanche awareness.

The Course
The first two days of training will cover avalanche awareness, transceiver searching, snow pack analysis and terrain risk analysis, rope techniques, abseiling, crevasse rescue, snow shoe touring, ski and crampon techniques, basic navigation and route planning as well as lots of other back-country techniques and knowledge.

The Challenge
On the final day, after all the training and preparation had been completed, Challengers will:
  • Take the cable car to the summit of the Aiguille du Midi, the highest lift n the Alps at 3842m. then attach crampons to boots and put skis/boards on packs and descend the amazingly exposed east ridge of the Aiguille du Midi to the Col du Midi.
  • With skis/boards back on, cross the Col and ascend the Pointe du Lachenal at 3613m. From the summit, Challengers will begin the 19km, 2700m descent of the famous Vallee Blanche to Chamonix.
  • Half way down, the heavily crevassed selection of the Geant icefall has to be negotiated. Then join the Mer du Glace and the amazing straightline run of 5km under the Grand Charmoz and the Aiguille Dru.
  • Escape from the toe of the glacier is by abseil after which, with skis on the packs, climb out to the fast 'James Bond' track and ride all the way to the finish in Chamonix! the route is obviously weather and condition dependent, and will be confirmed by the guides running the event.
